1. What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the name of an active compound found in cannabis. There are over 100 identified compounds that belong to a class of molecules called cannabinoids.

CBD is one of the dozens of non-psychoactive cannabinoids naturally found within the plant.

CBD is one of the main cannabinoids and is responsible for up to 40% of the hemp plant. Studies have shown cannabinoids have significant benefits, proving to be hugely beneficial to our well-being, and are completely non-addictive.

One of the most well-known cannabinoids is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC is the only psychoactive cannabinoid and produces the various effects most users would associate with being ‘high.’ THC is illegal in the UK.

Some other cannabinoids include Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC), Cannabinol (CBN), and Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDA), to name a few.

2. What does CBD do in my body?

The human body contains its own Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which houses various cannabinoid receptors.

CBD naturally acts on the ECS signals to increase receptor function and flow with no psychoactive reactions in the body.

The chemical compounds that interact with the ECS support are memory, mood, brain reward systems, and energy balance.

The ECS system has also been found to be beneficial in combating depression, and anxiety, increasing appetite, and creating feelings of well-being.

For more in-depth information, please see the Endocannabinoid system below.

3. What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) refers to a collection of cell receptors and corresponding molecules located throughout the body – in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells.

Though it performs different tasks in each tissue, its goal is always homeostasis or optimal balance within the body.

The endocannabinoid system is made up of three mechanisms:

  1. Endocannabinoids.
  2. Cannabinoid Receptors.
  3. Enzymes that create and break down endocannabinoids.

Whenever our functions get out of balance, the endocannabinoid system responds by triggering the release of enzymes designed to synthesize endocannabinoids.

These endocannabinoids – the most major of which are Anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol – bind to cannabinoid receptors found on cells in the brain and throughout the body.

Two primary cell receptors make up the ECS, Cannabinoid Receptor 1 (CB1) and Cannabinoid Receptor 2 (CB2).

Once the cannabinoid receptors are activated, they control the passage of proteins between cells, sending chemical messages between nerve cells and explaining that adjustments need to be made.

This process triggers a chemical response specifically designed to bring the function that had become unbalanced back into balance or homeostasis.

CB1 receptors are abundant in the central nervous system. CB2 receptors are more often found on immune cells, in the gastrointestinal tract, and in the peripheral nervous system.

Because cannabinoid receptors are found in so many places in the body, they are crucial for optimal health.

In fact, they play a significant role in regulating many bodily functions like:

  • Sleep
  • Appetite
  • Digestion
  • Hunger
  • Mood
  • Motor control
  • Immune function
  • Reproduction and fertility
  • Pain
  • Memory
  • Temperature regulation

Because of its ability to maintain homeostasis within the body, the ECS is perhaps the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health.

4. Is CBD safe?

CBD is generally well tolerated by most people and is considered safe, with extremely low risks of any side effects.

CBD is also known to interact with several medications. Therefore, we suggest speaking to your GP before taking any CBD products.

5. Is CBD Legal?

Yes. As long as the THC content is below 1mg, CBD is legal to purchase and sell in the United Kingdom.

All of our products continually go through 3rd party lab testing to ensure THC content is below the legal 1mg threshold.

(Click here to read more about CBD Oil UK law).

6. Can I get "high" using CBD?

Absolutely not! CBD does not cause a high and is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid compound.

THC is the compound responsible for the “High” feeling, and all of our products contain less than 1mg to comply with UK laws.

7. What is Full Spectrum CBD?

Full Spectrum CBD products contain the complete spectrum of compounds found within the hemp plant.

Including a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, fatty acids and omegas. Including trace amounts of THC.

Depending on what you are looking to achieve, Full Spectrum CBD can provide a more significant effect than CBD isolate alone, as all the compounds work together in what is known as the entourage effect.

8. What is Broad Spectrum CBD?

Broad Spectrum CBD is very similar to Full Spectrum. However, there are a lesser amount of cannabinoids, and these products contain no trace amount of THC.

You can read about Broad Spectrum Vs Full Spectrum CBD here.

9. What is the Entourage effect?

To describe their findings, the phrase “entourage effectwas coined by two Israeli scientists, Raphael Mechoulam and S. Ben-Shabat.

Taking the entire spectrum of natural compounds found in cannabis works far better together and is much more beneficial than only taking a single isolated molecule compound.

Raphael Mechoulam and many scientists who’ve followed his work maintain that all of the natural components of cannabis behave synergistically to produce far greater results than any single compound.

10. What's the difference between CBD and THC?

THC is a psychoactive compound that produces the various effects most users would associate with being ‘high.’

THC is currently illegal in the UK. Any product that contains any traces of THC must comply with UK law which states it must be under 1mg.

CBD, on the other hand, is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and therefore offers no psychoactive effects whatsoever.

Hemp and marijuana are both strains of the cannabis plant. The hemp plant contains much higher concentrations of CBD and low traces of THC.

Whereas marijuana has much higher concentrates of THC and lower traces of CBD.

11. What is the difference between "Isolate" & "Full Spectrum"

Isolate CBD products only contain one compound, CBD.

CBD isolate is in its purest form. It is isolated during the extraction process and made into powder.

Full Spectrum refers to all naturally occurring compounds found in the plant.

Full Spectrum products contain a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, fatty acids and omegas, not just CBD.

12. What health benefits does CBD offer?

Please Note – CBD Queen sells products as food supplements. We make no medical claims or suggest that CBD can cure, treat, or prevent illnesses.

13. Storage of Oil

Products are best stored in a cool, dry, and dark place. Do not expose to direct sunlight or heat.

Please note: Light, heat and air exposure all play a part in the breakdown of natural cannabinoids like CBD, so it is important to defend against them.

Can oil be kept in the fridge?

CBD oil can be kept in the fridge for a more extended period. However, lower temperatures can affect the colour and thickness of the product.

There might be some precipitation (it looks like flakes falling out of the oil), but it will go away when it is back at room temperature.

There is no loss of potency, and it won’t damage the product.

The ingredients we use in our oils are 100% natural – therefore, colour, smell, and appearance can vary slightly from time to time.

14. Can I take CBD with medication?

As a company, we sell CBD and cannot offer medical advice relating to your circumstance.

If you are taking medication and wish to use CBD-based products, please seek advice from your GP before purchasing.
